dove c head swap
I have a 429 for my torino that is all origional. In a couple weeks I am going to put it in the car and make my motor mounts and see how everything fits.
Any way, my 429 is a 73, and the guy I bought it from said it smoked a little bit, made good compression and ran fine. I didnt make any noise and had good power. So we are guessing that the valve guides are leaking. If so, I am thinking I will have my 1970 dovec heads rebuilt and put them on with a new cam, timing chain and lifters and such. I probably wont have the heads ported this time. I will do that when I rebuild the engine. I am just looking for mild performance and reliability right now.
So I need to know-
1. Can I use the stock intake manifold?
2. Can I use the exhaust manifolds from the 73 429?
3. Can I use the same head bolts?
4. Where can I get a cheap, good quality non retarded timing chain?
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
