    You'll need motor mounts, exhaust,a flywheel and all the stuff on the front of the engine..Bellhousing is the same pattern but that's about it..
    I remember when hot rods were all home made.

    I obviously wasn't clear enough. I have a complete 460/c6 engine trans combo. The t bird has a 351m/fmx. I was wondering if the engine bay was big enough for the swap. I pretty sure the motor mounts are the same, not sure about the trans mount.

    Probably not many out there have done this swap because it's the bird no one wants. Iv'e done the pick-ups and stangs. I need another challenge the challenge

    daffy`s answer is still good .. you will need motor and frame mounts from a 429 /460 vehicle .. trans mount and crossmember location may be the same .. 351M is a big - block -small cross breed boat anchor motor ..351M uses small block mounts ..
    iv`e used up all my sick days at work .. can i call in dead ?

    Sorry I didn't see the C6 part....You'll need to shorten the driveshaft.. The trans mount should work OK and the shifter will be a pain to get detented right..Theres plenty of room in the engine bay..

    Fryar Tuc;
    Man I wish I lived close to you, I'd buy both of those from you.
    You could beat the heck out of a FMX and never break it.
    And that 351M you can just take the crank and rods out and
    switch them for a differant crank and rods and make a 400M.
    Then take some close chambered heads off a 351C or after
    market one's and put them on, you would have one bad _ _ _

    I put a 460 and C6 out of a 78 Lincoln in my 78 Ranchero. A complete bolt in. My car had
    a 400M and C6 originally. I didn't know they still used FMX's in 78

    Hey, thanks for the info. I didn't think about shortening the driveshaft, getting the detenting right and frame mounts. I'll double check to see if it is an FMX. Thought that was what the trans code said. An FMX is cast iron with AL. bell housing right?

    Hey Vara, what's a reasonable sales price for a machine shop rebuilt 351m with receipt with 5k and a very clean FMX combo.? This car was a one owner with 85k before I got it. It runs and shifts just fine, still has the original carb tag. I still have all the smog stuff too, it's just not on it at the moment.
    It's just a little on the whimpy side for me. I got whipped by a hundai at the light. I still have all the smog stuff too, it's just not on it at the moment.

    Could be a real problem getting the motor mounts! I now have three lefts and no rights!
