Good cam?
I can pick up a used CompCams 268H-10 cam, lifters and roller timing set cheap. I have a '75 460 in my Ranchero that is stock except for a 750CFM Edelbrock. I also have a set of C9VE heads that I am planning on porting and swapping out the stock heads. The specs on the cam are:
Basic Operating RPM Range: 1,500-5,500
Intake Duration at 050 inch Lift: 218
Exhaust Duration at 050 inch Lift: 218
Duration at 050 inch Lift: 218 int./218 exh.
Advertised Intake Duration: 268
Advertised Exhaust Duration: 268
Advertised Duration: 268 int./268 exh.
Intake Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.494 in.
Exhaust Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.494 in.
Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.494 int./0.494 exh. lift
Lobe Separation (degrees): 110
Intake Valve Lash: 0.000 in.
Exhaust Valve Lash: 0.000 in.
Can this be used with either the stock or older heads without much additional work? Will it have a noticeable idle?

I just put the same cam in my 454, haven't started it yet though... I truly had no idea which cam to buy, you can read how I came to my decision here. Lots of good advice and links!

Yes, the parts would be effective with your combination. The camshaft, although not my personal 1st choice for a D3VE-to-D0VE head swap, will offer greater power than the oem 460 camshaft, especially with the portwork. Yes, it will have a slight lope at idle.

The cam you are considering is only just over $100 for a new one, and if you dont purchase it then you might consider using that money to buy a new camshaft that would be a little more effective. I don't know the exact application or intended use of your vehicle, but a good general all purpose cam for your head swap is the Summit Cam # SUM-3501...for a measly $60. Forget that used cam.
Either cam: oem stock replacement vavle springs will work; springs with 100-110 pounds on the seat (with a similar rate of rise) would be better.

Thanks for the replies. Paul, this will be used in a daily driver, no towing or racing. I may take it to the local drag strip to see how she runs. I see your point, Summit has cam, lifters and pushrods for a bit more than the used set.
Appreciate your help, guys.
