Angry Could have A DUMMY on our hands!!!!

Yeah, it would be me.... Bought an almost complete, but disassembled 429.
    D1VE-A2B block bored .060
4U crank main and rod journals turned .030
    D0OE-A rods
.....and here is the good part..hehe
    1 C9VE-A head and
    1 C8VE-E head....
my dumb butt should have checked both heads before i walked out

All the info I have read said these 2 heads are identical

Did I mess up as bad as I feel I did or am I still in good shape

still got a good deal as far as price is concerned as all the machine work was already done and i got a C6 tranny with torque converter...

The C8VE head and C9VE head are absolutely interchangable, so you may bolt those heads on the same block.

If the crankshaft has a fresh .030 undersize then it's fine and ought to last 100000 miles with new bearings, etc.

Sounds like you git yourself a rebuilt motor that you simply need to assemble.

Yeah, not to bad.....but still wondering if i ought to sell the iron and go with aluminum heads... I am looking for a streetable 500hp and would like an adjustable valvetrain, the heads have rocker studs and were milled for guide plates so there is some money in the heads...just don't know if i want to spend the money on a port job to get that 500hp....who knows(indecisive)

port job on those would cost about half of the price on buying a set of large runner aluminum heads that would weigh half, and wouldn't need any machine work, and they're ussually also ready for guide plates

well seeing as how i have never had anything ported before I don't know how much they run, just always though it was one of the most expensive things you could do at a machine shop....Would I need to port both intake and exhaust side or what? What is a fair price for a port job...

mainly exhaust and a little on the intake, depending on shops area demand and application a shop can charge you anywhere from $450-$1000 on a port job

    Cool

What kind of flow numbers, machining and valve hardware do you get for $600?

We recently ported some D0VE heads for a guy with a little old 429. He wanted a 12 second car and the heads were the last thing to be added. Our ported heads put him in the 11's in his firstever pass and without any tuning or sorting.

Just did another set for a jet boat guy with a bone stock 460 engine. Pulled his heads and replaced them with our ported D0VEs. Result: 95HP increase. That's with no other changes and with the stock cam; imagine how much more HP that could have been with a camshaft change that takes advange of the port work, etc.

Our D0VE heads can support in excess of 600 HP on naturally apirated engines. My business partners have managed quarter mile passes in the 7-second range with oem block, oem crank, oem C8VE heads and with stock used main bolts and stock used head bolts...estimated at 1800HP.

We are not as cheap as the other guys...nor are we the most expensive. We are about in the middle and definitely "bang-for-buck." We have hundreds of heads in stock and can offer them outright or with an exchange. Go to our website and check us out:
