    gear drives versus chains

Are cam gear drives better than a double roller chain? I know that chains do stretch after time, but is a gear drive that much better for a 460 drag engine? Ive raced alot of small block chevys in modifieds on a dirt track, but we ran a claimer rule so no one spent the extra money. I would like to run a gear drive on my 460 but are they really worth the extra money?

    Thanx Rick

Rick, there was a shootout in the latest Car Craft and there's not a nickel's worth of difference in horsepower. Bolt a Cloyes True Roller unit in there and forget it. (about a hundred bucks at summit) www.summitracing.com

Take note that NASCAR doesn't use gear drives.

240 and 300 6cyl. fords did to, and they was a pain in the butt to change without pulling the cam. a good roller chain does a pretty good job.
