    Valve Reliefs

     



    Anyone ever heard of Hudson 7x racing engines? Ever tried to apply the valve reliefs to other flattties? I'm doing this to my 1953 327 Packard inliner 8 and am thinking that this has got to improve breathing. If not check out Uncommon Engineering on the web. Pretty amazing things going on there!

    Hmmmm. What are the odds? Another flathead guy from Solomon!

    Relieving is an age old flathead hop up trick. Even the Beach Boys immortalized it: "......she was ported and relieved and she's stroked and bored.....".

    And the 7X (early '50's NASCAR championship material) might look something like this.

    Little off the subject I know...But this reminds me when I sold a SBC to a guy in high school. He tore it apart over the weekend, brought a piston to school & said, the engine was bad cuz' there wuz' marks in the pistons where the valves been hittin' the pistons......
    That wuz' back in the late 60's, I remember it like it wuz' just........35 yrs. ago.
