L head 6 cylinder flat head info needed
My first time rebuilding a flat head 6 cylinder, I read the book about adjusting the valves with the engine running and cold valve timing with a degree wheel. I have the engine on my engine stand and was wondering if any of you guys can tell me if I put the piston on tdc what to set the valves cold with a feeler gauge--intake 008 or something and exhaust 010--or. I had screwed the adjustment all the way down when I cleaned the lifters and all I want to do is put some kind of adjustment there before I set it back in the car and crank it. thanks for any help on this------------49 Plymouth, Richie

Richie; Post your question on the 32to 53 flathead board. I'm sure someone there can answer your question.

My GM manual says to set them at .012-.014 cold, then warm up the engine and set them again with it running. Lots of luck not burning yourself fooling around behind the hot exhaust manifold.
Is your Poncho a sedan or hardtop? Love '54 GM's!

It was a 4 door special deluxe, that post was made over two years ago. I finished it and drove it for a few months and sold it to a X Dolphin football player. I'm now building a 40 Packard 120 street rod, sure need two back fenders for this car----Richie
