For what it is worth here are some pictures of a flathead Ford block with reliefs ground into the top of the block.

FYI if you're looking for headers for the flathead 6, I'm having stainless steel flanges cut next week and will have stainless headers available in about a month.

AHHHH!!! Memories.. My first car was a '52 Plymouth Business coupe. back in the day, we'd have the exhaust manifold modified to make real dual exhaust. I got to do that after i cracked the exhaust!!.. Be sure to check out the U-joints if you go hot-rodding.. the originals are strange.. a T shape.. I used to rip them out every few months. If you hop up the engine.. 1st I'd reccomend, is change the U-Joints!! at least fresh ones.. and look into upgrading them to modern U-Joints!! in thetranny area... there was a long tail shaft and a short tail shaft.. mine was the short one... and to get the floor shift kit to work, I had to have a special bracket made to mount it... and then I had a reversed shift pattern... everybody thought I had a 4 speed when I pushed the stick forward to get 1st gear!! tough engine.. weak U joints, tranny- 1-2 gears are close but 3rd is waaay out there... imagine a 4 speed with no 3rd gear :-(.
I used to beat ALL the flathead Ford v8s, and the Chevy stovebolt 6's... but the 239 OHV Fords (52 on) had a long winded 2nd gear that I couldn't beat...
    Put up some photos!!
