I have the same problem except I have a 454 with a Edelbrock cam, carb and manifold. Mine "pops" through" the carb if I go WOT all of sudden. It will not pop if I gently press on the accelerator. I have to place another spring so that I do not have so much play in the throttle.

it pops thru the carb but only if I got on it and then backed off to a regular cruise speed, it wiil then occasionaly pop once or twice unless i stab it and then baby it ( and at the milage Im getting I want some more muscle to go with it) the pop is thru the carb but sounds some times like it is deeper in the engine

This might not be your problem but a friend of mine had the same problem of popping through the carb, it was under the same conditions you describe. He also has the edelbrock set up with cam, lifters, intake and the performer RPM heads.
He changed the carb, jets ignition, plugs, checked intake gaskets for leaks, checked and rechecked timing. Each time he thought he had it fixed and then it would pop through the carb again. We did notice that it seemed to be worse when it was warmed up. We even did a compression test on it and it was ok, also reset the valves, it still popped.
One thing I did notice when setting the valves was that #2 exhaust valve rocker wasn't getting oil up to the rocker. I figured a lifter problem.
It took alot of work but finally talked my friend into changing the lifters. It no longer pops, it seems that that #2 exhaust lifter was colasping and causing the popping because the exhaust wasn't getting out of #2 cylinder very well. If you happen to have the same problem it makes me wonder if Edelbrock sent out a bad batch of lifters?
One other thing that will cause an engine to pop out of the carb is not enough timing, make sure you have your timing right also.

When you bring it up, click on "automotive parts", then go to the far left of the screen and click on "carburetor", then click on "owner's manual".

Thanks, I'll check it out. Are talking about the little arm that goes to the pump that has three holes in it? Right now I have it in the middle hole. Should I go in the top or bottom hole?

Have you checked your mechanical advance? Is the vacuum advance working properly, and hooked up to the correct vacuum point on the carb? Check Edelbrocks manual like tech inspector says. It gives a complete troublshooting guide in it. If that doesn't help you drop them(Edelbrock) an e-mail they will get back to you. Be sure to give details on whats in the engine.(cam,intake,heads,etc.) Those folks are Edelbrock turned out to be alright. I had a bad step up piston on an old 600cfm Edelbrock tried to buy one from them, they said hell just give us your address and we'll give you a set for free. Now that's something you don't see too often. I don't think they even sell those things. Never could find a part number for one. But with one bad and one good it sure can make a carb do some odd stuff.
