EGR isn't all bad - it redirects some echaust gas back into the intake stream at high rpm/load conditions - purpose is to lower the temp of hte combustion to limit NOx emmissions - so it will lower performance BUT on the plus side, especially on a street car, will reduce the chance of detonation (pinging / pre-ignition) because the combustion temps are lower.
