    same question

Can I hijack this thread? Its actually the same question with specific details.

I am building two 78 broncos, i found them recently, they had made their way from west texas and had zero rust, not even any holes on the bottom side. Anyway, bronco #1 will have original 400M everything stock with a brand new two bbl and edlebrock 0-4500rpm intake/ cam is 1500 to 5500rpm. iam ok with this setup, I think it will turn out as i plan. Bronco #2 will have my 3/4 ton 460 rebuilt stock, THE question is, will the new 650 cfm Holey be big enough for a pretty much stock 460.

Ohh my twin 14 year old daughters have laid claim to these, we'll see...........

Since the OEM Autocraft on my long gone '79 F350 was, I believe, about 500CFM, a 700 on a stock 460 is too much. The Edelbrock 1406 is a 600CFM and was a good replacement on that particular truck. (I did try a Holley 3310, 780 CFM and it shoved gas through that engine about like a flush toilet, especially driving through the Rocky Mountains - thank goodness for THREE gas tanks and 55 gallons)

I did probably the first 460 install in a pickup in 1970----we used this truck to pull our 30 foot enclosed trailer with our front engine dragster along with etra engine, tools, extra tires'wheels, etc----we ended up running an 850 holley on it as with the smaller carbs we were constantly getting into the seconaries a little on the fuel econ would go to hell---with the 850 we had much larger primaries and could get a lot more pull before we'd start tripping the seconaries---We also had an 800 on one truck but the 850 worked better--

Several Ford people saw the install and they finally came out with the 460 as an option in 1973. I just recently did an POrshe engine for another shop and one of there guys ( former Ford eng) asked me what ever happened to the devil truck??? I guess it had a repetation that I wasn't aware of---
