    283 Balancer help...

What is the right balancer for this motor. Please help this is keeping me from setting the timing. The universal "cheapy" chrome timing tab does not fit with the 8' Pioneer balancer installed on the motor now. That made me question the balancer size.

Does anyone know what balancer i should have on this 283?

Scroll down to 283, 7 to choose from.....

The 8" dampers were used on several different applications in the SBC lineup and certainly won't hurt anything in your motor. It does take a little more to twist 'em up if you're looking for the quickest windup. But the 8" balancer in itself isn't going to limit the revability of the motor that much. I'd leave the 8" on the motor and cobble up a custom timing tab to mate with it.

Here's how to nail down the timing tab/damper ring so you can time the motor with a light....
