do a full tuneup on it, timing belt included, unless you know for a fact that one has been done on your car(if you dont, its very likely yours will snap) and then get a OBD2 scanner and hook it up and check what code its throwing... make whatever repair is needed.... and you should be good... autozone will rent you a scanner for free, pepboys will run a diagnostic for you for $20, and most shops will do the same.....

u may have a egr going bad i had the same thing but my engine light came on and that was the scan that came up from auto zone. there is a site i can give u hope this makes no waves but here it is www.jbody.org good info for the jbody owner just make sure u do a search cause they are cocky about ? that already been answered
