sounds like spark or fuel..i'd start with spark.
check vacuum advance and mechanical advance in dist (put a timing light on teh engien and rev it and you can see the timing mark advance. it helps if you paint the mark on the balancer white or orange (nailpolish works)) It should advance..

disconnect and plug the vac line to dist, and repeat. it shoud advance, but not as far.

then, check points (gap) or better yet dwell angle.

Does it miss at all or jut not rev?

Possible the accelerator pump in carb is kaput - with engine off, remove air cleaner, look down carb throat and pump carb linkage - it should squirt gas down the carb throat.
