Barry Grant Carb, Speed Demon Problem

    Hi,

I have a Barry Grant carburetor, Street Demon, 650cfm, vacuum secondaries. The problem is that the secondaries constantly dump fuel through the Boosters.
I have rebuilt the carb completely with the Barry Grant kit, and the problem still exists. What could be causing all this gas dumping through the rear boosters at idle?
I have adjusted the floats and leaned the mixture, still no remedy. Any help is appreciated as I'd really like to drive this car before winter.

I also cannot get any idle on the carb, but I suspect that is due to all the fuel dumping? It races and blows smoke…

    BG carb

I have had two Speed Demon carb and they (BG) have very poor quality control. Both of my carbs where full of metal shavings from the CNC process on the metering plate. One of the jets was cross threaded and striped. THROW THE CARB AWAY! I changed from my speed demon to a Holley 650 dp classic ($325.00) and picked up .15 in the 1/8 mile and the car drives incredible. Barry Grant is the biggest joke (ripoff) placed on the hotrodding public. Piss on BARRY GRANT. Just my opinion.

I would say you have an acclerator pump way to tight and that is why it is dumping the gas in to early in the back.

The Speed Demon is more tuneable than the Holley.Where do you think Barry Grant came from anyway?A lot of the parts on the speed Demon interchange with the Holley and vice versa. You might want to go down to your local drag strip before you voice such a strong opinion. When I walked through the sportsman cars I say more Barry Grants than the Holleys. Why?

    Hey erik,

As I said just my opinion of BG. I do go to the local drags and more holley's here than BG's. If you would have seen how two of the Barry Grant carbs where sent to me you would understand my opinion. I paid good money for something that was not properly assembled and full of metal shavings. So my money goes to Holley and not Barry Grant. No brand new carb should have to be rebuilt right out of the box. Haven't seen any Barry Grant carbs on any Pro Stock cars or in Nextel Cup cars. Wonder why Summit doesn't carry these carbs anymore? could it be that they had a high return rate. I'm sure that there are some very good running BG carbs but I will not pay for a new carb that I have to rebuild. Sorry if I offended anyone but that was my experience with Barry Grant.

As I said just my opinion and I also have a Holley Hp thats a very nice carb also and no problems with it either. I would be willing to bet that metal shavings are in the the rear bowl and holding the needle open.

Barry Grant runs Pro Stock on the NHRA circuit and in the last two seasons I believe he has not qualified more than a couple of times. Not a shining endorsement.
