    quadrajet

I just happened to have the air cleaner off with my motor running checking to see if I got the oil leak fixed when I happened to look into my carb. I noticed that on the left gas was sprinkling out while on the right there wasn't an even flow if any. Is this normal for a quadrajet? I shut it off and checked the accelerator jet and it's only sqirting into the left bore, does the right bore have a jet too?

I was considering buying a holley, but been reading posts about the qjet and am considering get it rebuilt. What I'm thinking about doing is just getting a stock 327 350hp camshaft. I have two quadrajets. One is the stock carb off the 79 van and the other I have is manual choke off of a 1969 350. I believe it was on a chevelle or something. I'm thinking of just getting the 69 rebuilt. I was able to dig up a guy here that's competent with quadrajets. A friend told me that he takes all his quadrajets there and the guy knows his stuff and only charges 75 bucks. I figure I can get mine rebuilt and use the money to buy a camshaft, lifter, spring kit, get some headers, and decent dizzy. Like I said in another post I'm only looking for 300-350 hp. Side note, how much power can someone run through a 700R4?

I would strongly opt for the 79' unit...they are much better performers...If yours does not have An electric thermostat in the choke housing you can opt for one you can buy the for $ 18.00 for a 83 camaro I think.... Once you get it set it will work nice ...the choke pull-offs are sensitive a 1/2 turn either way will make a HUGE difference in cold weather...

Also If you use the 327 350hp cam ( .447 lift and 222 dur@ .050) You WILL have to enlarge the ilde bleed curcuit to get it to idle proper.....Just using the carb as is, it will not like to idle correctly and will stall and stumble...

That is a very good price for a competent rebuild. As suggested, I'd convert to an electric choke setup. I'd also change the float. The Quadrajet should work fine with the 350 horse cam. I ran a 327 with the 350 cam and a Q-jet in a Vega for over 4 years and it performed very well. You might look at one of the smaller Extreme energy Com Cams.

The 700R4 should give you no problems. I have a 700R4 in my stock bodied 72 Nova with a 406 small block. I had about 50 runs on it last year with no problems. I guestimate my horsepower to be around 460. Car ran high 11's at 114mph. The overdrive really makes the car streetable even with a 4.11 gear. I have lock up in 4th gear only.

    Hope this helps.
