if your damper ring has slipped, the cost effective way to fix this without buying a full damper is a damper cover... they run about $25, give you very accurate readable numbers, the bolts go thru them, and they're a single piece... so you never have to worry about it slipping or anything

"Sallee Chevrolet does not recommend that you get the chromed covers. We have determined that it is near impossible to time an engine with this version and a timing light. "
neat!! though ........"Whad'ya want for nuth'N, ..............aaa,rrrrrubber biscuit... ?"
"bad spellers of the word untie ! "
If your wondering how I'm doing I'm > " I'm still pick'N up the shinny stuff and passing open windows"

and yall thought i was just bullshitting you.... and yeah sadly they're only chevy so far... hopefully they make a ford one sometime soon, my balancer has slipped off pretty bad... i have to just time by ear and feel... which isn't the most effective method, but its decent

The problem was overlooked the timmed vac port was getting constant vacume and taking inital timming from 10 degrees to 20 at idle. I idled the carb down the most i could but the throtle blades were still open at idle. i decide just to lockout the vac advance and it runs perfect

good deal.... now you might want to look into getting that advance fixed to keep your performance up to its best

The old story is that you "need" a vacuum advance for street driving. However it is supposed to aid in fuel economy which is not high on my list of concerns. :-) My engine (see post around here somewhere) ramps way up on the advance - much more the savage beast without it. I normally stop using a vacuum advance around the .280 mark on a small block because fuel mileage is no longer a concern.

advance increases fuel economy, but it also can help generate that little bit of extra power at higher RPMs... i personally reccomend using an advance.... mecahnical or vaccuum? well thats a different story

i think my mechanical advance from a petronix distributor is 24 with 12 inital that will take me to 36. has anyone had a problem with the timmed vacume port on a edelbrock carb. i would like to run my vac advance.

ille even go with just mechanical advance since the port keeps getting vac do ineed to get my distributor recurved to get 38 degrees of timming at 3,000 rpm
Several years back, maybe before John & Rosie visited, Mike got fed up with work politics and took a week off to come to Kansas. We ran around the KC Metro for 2 or 3 days, and then he took a side...
