    MMmm..
Depending on how long it sat....
It may need to be pulled apart and thoroughly cleaned out, all oil passages in the block, crank etc, including the pushrods and new lifters.
Old oil/dirt/rust may have restricted the passageways all over the engine.
Or it could be something simple, like the oil pump itself.
I would start with the oil pressure, hook a guage up, drill prime the pump and see what it gets to and pull the pushrods out to see if they are clogged up.
Odds are, if the rods are clogged, the rest of the motor is too.
Dieseling can be a few things..
Timing a bit off, carb too rich, carbon build-up making a hot spot allowing the fuel to burn after shut-off etc.

I would really find out whats up with the oil pressure and lack of flow before worrying too much about running it again. No oil or lack of flow will kill the motor quickly.

I do need to get va pressure gauge hooked up, what i have done is pulled the upper end apart..............wow. The dude i bought the car from saw me a comin'. This 429 i guess in 1964 doesnt have any passage through the push rods, they are solid. The galley for the top end come through the rocker arm shaft. After i pulled the shaft i can see the problem. Pulling the hold down bolts was like pulling a rubber boot out of 2 feet of alabama mud...........it made this suction noise and was hard to pull by hand. The bolts looked like somone smeared graphite lube on them and this stuff was in all the holes of the arms and shafts. Does oil do this after time? A buddy told me they must have ran non detergent oil cause if that sits for awhile it will gum up and turn grey. I dont want to pull the engine apart so can i fill it with "Mystery oil" or part tranny fluid and flush it? My solvent tank make short work of the gum.

Lack of maintenece, high milage on oil, leaky gaskets (water mixed with oil) and sitting for a long time can do that as well as other things..
I even had one brand of oil start gumming things up within 500 miles of a change.

If it is that gummed up and sat for that long,'I' wouldn't rely on quick fixes and engine flushes. Then again, I have never trusted that method (the shortcut method) too much after seeing a 302 get locked up while the shop teacher poured kerosene in the carb while running to burn off carbon.

So what are you sayin'............tear it apart? I leeet things soak a bit then pulled the distributor and spun it again. oil flew from the bolt gallys on both sides {rocker shafts removed} the oil that came up looked like what i poured down. I will know more when pan gaskets get here. Ill pull the pan to check the pick up and view the sludge. The book i have shows oil route. If oil moves freely up to the gallys at hold downs and freely through shafts, know will the lifters pump up?

the rocker arms that has the shaft dont shot oil all over the place like the open push rods do, it sounds like the lifters are stuck up from sitting. if youve got oil at the top of the motor, that tells me the motor must not be to bad. have you changed the oil? it not a good idea to start braking all that sludge loose do its going to the pan and really stop up your oil screen. change the oil and filter and add something to help clean the lifters, let it run and give it enough time to clean the lifters. if you wonted to clean the motor, we used to (at the caddy dealership in 1960) use kerosene and add a qt. to the motor and run the motoe about 30 min. and then change the oil and filte, it will clean it like a new one.but the first thing i would do is add something to help clean the lifters, or flush the motor before i pulled the pan off. you cant clean all that junk out of the motor by hand with the motor in the car no way.
