    Big-Inch caddy's

I have an opportunity to pick up a cheap complete 500 cid caddy motor. I was wondering what is the size difference over this motor compared to the BBC. I heard that the 500 is also 75 lbs. lighter than the BBC, is this true? Thanx.

Its only 75lbs lighter if you get an aluminum intake for it (like the one's from Edelbrock)

What do you mean by "what is the size difference over bbc"? Do you mean actual dimensions? If so, I don't know. Ask the guys at www.500cid.com

Dimensionally it is slightly larger. I will post the exact dimensions later this evening. They are lighter than the BB Chevy. These motors are great torque monsters and can build tremendous power at less than 5000 RPM. Makes them great for the street and no one will take you seriously... Until it is too late

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

Dimensions as promised, compared to Big Block Chevy with short water pump:

Length: Rear of intake to Water pump pulley Cad 30" BBC 30.5
Width: Outside Valve Cover to Outside Valve Cover CAD 28.5" BBC 27"
Height: Bottom of Sump to High point of Intake Manifold Cad 28.5 BBC 27

    Hope that helps

Hey, thanx a lot Pat. Well, sounds like I can't go wrong with this engine. I'll post pictures hopefully within the next week. Thanx again.

I've got my '54 Plymouth Savoy, if it's only a few inches bigger than a bbc, do you think there will be much problem??

Probably. Thats how the parts guys make money, they screw ya on the parts cost of rarely buildt engines. I'm sure however that there are some parts on it that are the same as a BBC, you have to remember that your dealing with GM and for the most part they pick out of the same parts bin.

Excellent, thanx for all your input. I see a caddy engine in my near future. Now, if it would ever quit snowing here in Denver. I could get out there, pull that engine and get 'er into my garage. What kinda horsepower do those monsters push out stock.
