    471 Blower Help

    Hey all,

I am new here. I have a 1957 Chevy Step side that I am currently building. I gt an awesome deal on a 471 blower (free). I was originally going to build the 350 small block that is currently in the truck. I am still planning on building it just for some street fun.

I just have a few questions.

The blower is, I believe, a 471. It is missing the drive set up. It is either new or rebuilt. It was found in a trucking companies warehouse when a friend of mine bought the property. It is extremely clean and coated in grease.

However, the drive setup is normally on the driverside of the engine. On this piece it seems to be on the passenger side. Can it be that it is still set up for a diesel? I know they usually have to be set up for gas. I am assuming this is why.

When I look at pictures of them online the back just looks like they have little caps over the bearings and the front has the gears on it that turn the guts and the drive setup comes off that. Mine looks like the guts were put in backwards. It spins nicely and seems to be rebuilt or very lightly used. Just curious what you guys think. I can post pictures later.

I would call these guys and talk with them. They've been around for decades and have probably seen every different kind of Roots blower that was ever made.

it will need to be gone threw and set up for a belt drive by the time you buy all parts will be much cheaper to buy a kit, as you could end up with just a bare case . there no big savings there. The blower shop or TBS have done rebuild and used there kits . some of my customers had dealings with them they are who i use
