    496 Build

I have an 88 RCSB truck that I plan on putting in a stroked gen 6 into. I plan on using AFR 290 oval port heads, edelbrock air gap intake, either holley 870 or quick fuel 850 carb, cam choice not sure of because Id like to go as big as I can go and still be streetable. Im going to keep compression around 10.1-10.5. I also plan on spraying a 150 shot through a progressive controller. The truck has an edge racing converter that has a 3600-3900 stall. Rear end is beefed up 10 bolt with moser axles, 3.90 gear, and detroit tru trac. Tranny is TH400. Im wondering how much horsepower/torque I may expect and what kind of track times. I want to keep the truck hydraulic roller and very streetable since it will be mostly street driven on PUMP gas. Any info would be greatly appreciated and if Im heading in the right direction. Also any cam choice would be appreciated also. Nitrous will be through a stand alone fuel system with the holley blue pump that is on the truck now. The holley blue will be replaced with a aeromotive a1000 pump. Thanks

i have a cam thats new Erson hyd that will work new 4/7 swap or i a have a comp that would work as well but solid roller i would go team G intake .3500 is about all the stall you need for the cam i have you should use the race roller lifter that has the short valving in the lifter for hi rpm .i would go with a small rect port head if your dumping Nos . with that hi of stall and Nos you may be working abit past them heads with the RPM intake but thats the way i see it you have a intake .gear and stall. heads but not a cam thats abit backwards from the way i do it . i not the king of the bbc engine but i built many from 396 to 632+

As far as cams, I was think of using comp cams xm296hr-12 (242/248 @.050, .566/.566) or lunati 299/304 ( 240/245 @ .050, .612/.612). The smalllest rect. port head I see from AFR is the 305 and I feel it is to much head for street use because I would have to turn more than 6000 rpms to take full advantage of the head. Thanks for the reply.

seeing gm put bigger rect ports on smaller engines and i have to .you can build it with O ports there fine to a point would like to try the new darts . i just spent one day cutting out a set of 99 O port chevy heads for bigger valves and bowl work going on a 580+ CID just for the hell of it were taken bets on were they will nose over but with a 700 lift solid roller should pull hard make big QT .most all street builds can use a o port but with nos i think small rect not going to hurt not sure i would be so hot on them cams for Nos i would look at 232/244 .604/604 3500-6500 or 244/250 .604/.604 3800to6800

I would be willing to give it a try, just the guy I talked with from afr suggested the 290 oval port for my use. I like the darts and trick flow as well they just dont flow like afr does. My goal is to hit 600/600 on motor maybe a little more and about 750-780 with the spray. As far as bottom end goes Im looking at scat, lunati or callies. Appreciate the suggestions.

afr are good heads i have not used many around here darts are not hard to get and there in mich so i like to buy from them .as for flow the darts are wet flowed and i would not look to hard at dry air numbers to much .i re work alot of iron O ports for street use most guys just do not have the money for afrs .i have used many scat cranks in blower engines and many hi hp builds they work .for the leve your at they will hold down that much hp EZ .the comp star i have used as well so both will do the job i like the 8 plate abit more and they were priced at one time with the scat s so the comp star was the best bang for the buck. you should get to hi 500s to 600 with the right parts some can do that with rework iron heads
