reliable carb setup?

Hey guys im only nearing 20 so I dont know much about carbs but I was thinkin about getting a 73 camaro. Everyone says that It wont be reliable but I plan on doing a full engine rebuild so my question is can I build a reliable carb engine with around 375-425 hp??

It depends on if your running a big block or a small block.
A big block you could run that HP all day with no problems.
A small block I think you would have some problems with.
Ask Pat Mc Carthy he the pro at these kind of builds.

Of course you can, but you have to remember that horsepower = money. The higher the horsepower means more money and less street friendly.

And one modification leads to another and another and..........

For example, you can build the engine then find out you need a stronger, better transmission to handle it. Then the rearend becomes the weak link, so you have to install a stronger, better suited one.

Like the say, "Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?" Not trying to discourage you, just laying out the realities.

Yea Im building an 84 s10 with a nice little 350 in it. Getting cheap parts for the truck wasnt too hard or expensive because there is a ton of them around here. But when I got to the motor it was a different story. Like Itoldyouso said, One improvment leads to another. I went outta my budget I planned for a long time ago lol but its worth it

And don't forget that reliability is also a function of how you treat it. If you are planning on multiple red line shifts daily you will find it far less reliable in general than engaging in just an occasional burst of fun. Finally, this is no reflection on you personally, but in general I have found through direct experience that 20 year olds can test the reliability of just about any piece of hardware in any application they come into contact with.
