Rocker Arm Ticking
I have Comp xe 268 cam in my 355 with roller tip rockers. One rocker started ticking after about 1000 miles or so. Adjusted it was fine. Took car for ride [ over 2000 miles ]first time this year same one satrted ticking. Seem to do it when it was hot. So adjust it again. My biggiest fear cam lobe going bad. Called Comp Cams and they said that lobe going bad. The car runs fine and pulls real hard. I would think after 2000 miles car would start missing.

With out tearing engine down you could use a dial indicator to compare lift on lobe in question and compare it to another. Making sure you check intake to intake & exhaust to exhaust.Charlie

It's also possible to have a bad lifter, but given today's oils the cam is more likely. Our race team page

If your loosing adjustment on a valve it's usually always a cam lobe. Best to pull it apart, get the lifter out and take a look. you can usually see it on the bottom of the lifter and on the cam lobe. Don't forget if your loosing the cam that means metal grindings circulating thru the motor...

I'm with Pat - check the stud if it's a pressed one. I've seen them come out ever so slowly."Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty." John Basil Barnhil

you will see no metal in you oil or not much less you have a magnet on your drain plug if you have thin body poly locks one could have a crack in one of them or the tops of your studs are not flat the set screws set better if the studs tops are flat or you wearing a rocker arm or push rod tip is going a way and if all that looks good then your loosing a lifter going outIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

I would put a dail indicator on it and stop hoping for the best. Believe me I have been there and done that , it only gets worse , real quick......
I also had a exhaust leak that sounded like a tick and a mechanical fuel pump that ticked also.Friends dont let friends drive fords!

Run it with the valve cover off and see if the pushrod spins---if it doesnt, cam is all ready toast, lifter shot, push rod and rocker arm also, maybe even oil pump by now
wow just fantastic craftsmanship !!
