    '92 Ranger 2.8 V6 q's

I just bought a '92 Ranger 4x4 with 2.8/ 5spd for $400, and it does run and drive but has an issue.. the PO says the fuel pressure regulator is bad, causing gas to get sucked in the vac system ( which I know can happen if the diaphram ruptures ). it now idles rich and stumbles at idle ( seems to go with the story ).. and if you shut it off and go to restart it, you have to put the pedal to the floor and it will start like a flooded carb engine. the truck is still at the PO's ( DMV not open on sat ) so what I was wondering.. can I stick a vac cap over the FPR vac port, and plug off the vac line just to get it home?

matt try unhooking and plug the vac line to fpr put a hose on the fpr into a can then pull the vac line off of of the map sensor and plug it and run a hose from the map sensor into the cab put a hand vacuum pump on that hose and pull about 18 in of vacuum on that hose you should be able to fool the ecm into thinking the eng has no load on it that should widen the pulse width to the injectors and lean the mixture enough to drive home should work btw when before you replace the fpr blow throug the return line make sure there is no restricton i had a cust car that we i could not make pass smog check dead rich high co rich mixture high hc makes rich missfire turned out someone had put a jack in the wrong place and smashed the return line flat, this will probley work, good luck ted

Matt, unless that 92 Ranger had an engine swap, it should not have a 2.8L V6. The 2.8 was only used in the Ranger in 1983-85.
    92's came with either a 2.9 Cologne, a 3.0 Vulcan or a 4.0L.
The 2.8 was carbureted, all the others were injected.
You can find a lot of good information on these engines and the Ranger at
