You can build that engine on a budget . And Build it to run High Miles with out any early tear Down . And it will make all kinds of Torque / HP . You do not want to build it Like a Pro-Stock Drag Car engine . Over built it will Lose all kind of Low end Power . The Low end Power of that BB Ford is the great thing about using it in your Truck . Music to your ears is when you hear how well it runs with that mild cam . And you see how well it smokes

Ya Hooo! Thanks for finding that Denny! It will have an edelbrock manifold and Sanderson headers, so things look good!

Tango that is exactly what I'm shooting for. I'm feeling better all ready. I keep wondering, what if I did this, or that...I just don't want to underpower it. 350-400hp is plenty! Plus now I am better versed to talk to the guys building it. This place always amazes me with the wealth of knowledge you guys share so freely!
If it wasn't for this site I'd never consider even buying the truck in the first place, then tearing it apart and starting over!

When you rebuild it try to get your C/R at 9.5.1 . And for a camshaft how about the Edelbrock cam kit with springs that matches your intake . It is #2167 That camshaft is 194/204 dur at .050 and 460in/480ex Lift . It's a mild cam but you will not have to run super heavy valve springs that wear out camshafts faster . And your MPG will be much better with this set up . That cam and Lifters is only $149.95 COOL

Well I called the rebuild company today and talked with Casey, the first guy, and he said he would credit the cost of a cam and lifters, to swap with the Edelbrock 2167 cam and lifter set. He also will match the springs and lifters to the cam. I also double checked with him the brand of pistons they use. It will either be federal mogal or Sealed Power. He said they need to update their web site, as it still lists Badger as their brand. I told him a bunch of guys would probably bypass their site for the Badger brand alone. So they are going to try and update that. Good folks! If George credits me with an economic incentive, and if my union settles our contract, I will be able to get an engine asap! Very good stuff!

One other point....use a '68 to '71 429 timing set. It is my understanding that the '72-up sets retarded the cam timing by 8* so the motor could better comply with emissions of the day.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

I was going to use the matching edelbrock set. Not sure if it retards timing?"

That's fine. Doesn't matter whose parts you use, just specify that you want the parts for a '68 to '71 429.

I hope that guy on youtube wasn't breaking in the engine!
I run a 70 type 429 Dove heads etc, with a 280 Comp cam, 10-1 comp
why and intake and headers in my 57 and am pleased for a street motor.
I did put guide plates, adj rockers and hardened pushrods. I didn't like the
way the roller rockers rode on the valve stems so didn't use them.
It doesn't run 11's like the ole 427, but it runs good.
