    Honny, I'm Hone!

    Whats up everybody?

What type of hone/what grit would you guys recommend to kick the glaze off small engine cylinders? For iron blocks? For aluminum blocks? I am looking to restore the original hone marks, not make new ones.

I have seen hones that look like a bunch of balls at the end of a rod all the way to the real thing they use at machine shops.

So what would you guys use? I have been told some where in the 220 grit neighborhood is good. I have access to a drill and drill press. speeds from 620rpm to 3100rpm on the drill press

I used a ball end hone on some taper flo valve bodies. ( six inch tapered bore). Not sure what grit they were, but did a wonderful job with just a hand drill.

I have a three-jaw stone hone ( again, not sure what grit ) only used it once. Managed to bugger up one of the stones right off the bat.

The ball end definitely work easier.

ok. I will go with a "berry hone". You guys know what grit I should use for previously stated purpose?

    Thanks,

There was an add in the last Engine Builders magazine about ball hones.
They say "It takes balls to be the best".
Not really sure what this has to do with anything.

    Thanks for the help guys!

I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the price! Oh baby those bad boys are expensive! Thanks for the warning pat mccarthy it softened the blow...slightly...

Bummer that I deal with a variety of bore sizes. Can't just buy one.

Deffinetly getting one for my paintball gun though! thats COOL!
