    500 cu in cadillac

Been thinking about a slammed deuce roadster with a 500 cu in caddy... I've read that the caddy (with an aluminum intake) is only about 60 lbs heavier than a chev small block... Anybody out there ever try this combo ? I think the TH 400 trannny works with this engine but I think a stick shift would be too cool... Any idea what 4 speed tranny would be a good fit...?

    Thanks

Thumbs up responce to 500 caddy engine

Maximum torque specialties will have all the answers to any questions about installing 472/500 caddy engines, they specialize in these types of instillations their # is 262-740-1118. These engines are awsome, the 1970-500 caddy engine makes 400 horse power w/550ft. pounds of torque @ 3000 RPM's straight from the factory. Have fun! -Kurt

Some things not mentioned about the 4 spd conversion; the caddy crank is not drilled of a pilot bearing (any machine shop should be able to handle this). Bolt pattern for the flywheel (I think it's the same as pontiac) and finding a tranny that will handle 500 FP of torque.

    508 Cadillac power

    Hey there,
I am running a 30 over 500 Cadillac in a 66 F-100 pickup. I couldn't be happier with the combination. It produces 40 lbs. more torque that a 70 LS1 454/450hp at half the rpm's. This is a motor for the real world. Don't expect to take it through the traps at 7,000 rpm's. In fact it's best to keep it under 5,000. What makes the difference if you're make 550 ft. lbs. of torque @ 2800.
It is definately to your advantage to use the Edlebrock 2115 manifold. It made a lot of difference. I used a mild Comp Cam for esthetics more than anything. This is an honest 400 hp engine. If you can keep your foot out of it the mileage will be better than a lot of passenger cars. Another plus is your do not need a lot of gear. You're actually better off letting this thing grunt it out. The only difference between the 500 and the 472 is the crank and the pistons. The only way to truly tell them apart is the letter (J) on the crank casting.(don't let anyone tell you differently.) You can run the motor on 89 octane if you want with no problems. I used a 800 cfm Edelbrock carb. Make sure you dial it in. If you can use an upgraded ignition. Cubes always like some extra spark. I got an inexpensive set up through Summit that has 55,000 volts. Hope this will help.

Welcome to Club Hot Rod. I have read numerous articles and for years have considered doing something like that.

Your ride sounds like a lot of fun.

as far is i have figured i can use the convertor from the caddy tranny. i for shure will let you know once the snow is gone what itll run like.
it shur spins the tires on the edorado now and its needs a tune up bad.
