DE letter code was used on 283 and 307 blocks:

    Camaro 1969 307
    Chevelle 1965 283
    Chevelle 1966 283
    Chevelle 1967 283
    Chevelle 1968 283
    Chevelle 1969 307
    Impala 1958 283
    Impala 1959 283
    Nova 1964 283
    Nova 1968 307
    Nova 1969 307

Translate your date code and you can probably figure
out which one it is.......1968 is a dual year where both
    were built.

if the motor is in a 62 then it would not be the original motor, 307 's according to my book only ran from 1968 thru 1973. alot of sbc chevy's in 62 were 283 and 327's

novas in 62 were a 6cyl only car so its obviously not the original motor the v8 wasn't put in the nova til 63
just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day
