Wife says I need to stop spending $ at the junkyard

Everytime I go out to the crusher yard I seem to find somthing about to get smashed. This time at home it was a 1967 Impala with 327 emblem on the fender. It had a small block with automatic so i bought the motor for 150 and the trans was a T400 so I got it to for 125. The car was last tagged in 1975 so I was betting the engine was good. It had camel humps on it and they ended up being 461's in desent shape, took the pan off and noticed the wide band on the Steel Crank, i guess somebody put it in it because of the newer flange on the rear (was not round). The cranks seems to be in perfect condition, I could not find any numbers on it only GMT. It is a small journal, std bore engine that doesn't look to need boring. So when I get home I will take the block and crank to the machine shop but what next? Is the small journal good enough to build a decent 327. Since It already has the steel crank I was thinking about boring it and building an 11:1 motor. Was thinking of just buying some better heads rather than putting money into the 461's. Would like to build it with the max HP I can get out of the block figuring on getting some better rods and try to get 400 to 450 HP out of it. If all that would work what heads would I need? Fully ported, fastburn, or what? It will prob be put in my 68 camaro.

Hey I've heard that one before too. Then after watching an Overhaulin show the other night on TV my wife asked me "why don't you buy some of those Foose wheels for the vette"? What says I? She repeats and I reply that I will have to wait till the Goodguys show this weekend to see what would look best. Yippee!

Wow, none of us have EVER heard that before. Most wives gladly hand over all their paychecks so we can play with these toys. Now, what were the OTHER TWO GREATEST LIES??

Marriage is an istitution....... I try to avoid being institutionalized!!!!!!

Sounds like a good find!!! (the motor and trans, that is!!) Far as the heads, there are a lot of good aftermarket ones around, might be better to look at them vs dumping a lot of $$$$ into the stockers...

My wife said I can't walk in the basement anymore,PLEASE get rid of some of your toys!!!! Sold 3-three deuce manifolds and carbs set up, 2- four barrel carb set ups, intakes, hoses, fenders, hood, and it looked real nice. About a month later I was saying, "get rid of your junk in the basement" as she had proceded to move hers down to the cellar where I had moved all my stuffout. Can't win!!!!!
Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!
