Engine Options for a '60 Super 88 Oldsmobile

I have a 2 dr with a missing engine and tranny. I want to get the car on the road temporarily and was thinking I could put a small block with a th-350 or something. Any ideas? What about engine mounts? I have no allegiance to a particluar brand, Chevy Buick or Olds, ultimatley I will find a 394 to make it back into an Original Olds. But for now I want something just to get the beast back on the road.

    What do you guys suggest?
    Best Regards,

    William Schubarg

To all us Olds lovers in the world PLEASE don't put a smallblock Chevy in it.

I helped a buddy swap a 455 into this exact car about 6 years ago, and it worked out ok, but 394's are plentiful, and will bolt right back in.

I understand your motivation, but for the work you go through putting anything in it just to get it going, but if you are doing all that, put an Olds back in it so the engine looks sized right for that massive engine room. Plus, you need torque to move that thing.

I would agree. You are doubling the work and the expense. Just do it the way you want it the first time. The 394 was a good engine, but if you can't find one, I'd go with a bigger, newer Olds.
