    283 Response Time And Power

     



    I AM NEW TO THE FORUM AND I NEED HELP WITH A 283 ENGINE I JUST REBUILT AND PUT IN MY 65 CHEVY PICKUP. THE ENGINE HAS BEEN BORED .60 AND I HAD THE MACHINE SHOP GET MY PARTS. THEY GOT A BLUE RACER CAM AND THE PART # IS WG-1078. THE HEADS ARE STOCK. MY PROBLEM IS THE RESPONSE TIME WHEN I AM STARTING TO PULL OFF AND IT DOESN'T SEEM TO HAVE THE POWER I THOUGHT IT WOULD HAVE. I HAVE A CARTER QUADRAJET ON IT NOW BUT I TRIED A ELDERBROCK 600 AND IT DID THE SAME THING. DOES ANY ONE HAVE ANY ANSWERS SHORT OF CHANGING THE CAM?

    Sounds a lot like an ignition timing issue. We've had lots of discussion about this lately on other threads (seems like lot's of 283's lately too). Go to the Forums tab at the top of the page. When you get to the page that lists the various forums you'll see a link at the top of the page that says "search". Click that. There'll be a grey bar that allows you to type in a word (or more) to search for. Type in timing, and it will bring up a list of the threads that referenced timing.
