if you want drive-in restaurant "rump-rump", use something like this from Crane. It's ground on 106 degree centers, so it'll sound nasty...

If you prefer a smoother idle, maybe something like this ground on a 110 degree center would work better for you....

Hey tech, wouldn't the lobe seperation dictate the idle quality? I always thought that 112-114 were factory lobe seperations and that a noticeable idle develops with around 110 and 106 could get down right ugly sounding. Of course this could depend on the engine size and make. Any thoughts?
I would suggest not going too radical, but go as radical on the cam grind that is acceptable with your compression ratio. That's what I would do anyway.

Yep 53, you're right on the money. I guess it's all relative. A 112-114 center is gonna be dead smooth 'cause that's what 99.9% of new car buyers want. It's the other 0.1% of us knuckleheads that want a little sound with our cams. A cam ground on 110 will not be as dead smooth as a factory cam, but it won't be as raspy as a cam ground on 106 either. My buddy had his cam ground on 104 centers and it sounded reaaaaaallllly good. He kept the duration within limits for his 9:1 compression just like I did when I picked those 2 cams for Speed Freak. With about the same combination in a '59 Stude pickup and a ladder bar rear with pinion snubber, he went 11.84 at Firebird, so the cam worked pretty well. I sold him a set of Goodyear slicks and a 4.30 third member for his 9", so that didn't hurt his combo eitherLast edited by techinspector1; 09-08-2005 at 11:06 PM.

If the truck went that fast.....and the motor was pretty close to the same as mine, that would mean that alot of the work was done on the suspension? I never figured that an engine anything like the one that I have would pull those kind of numbers. That is kind of refreshingNightmareBreed Midland, TX
