I don't plan on racing, I would just like to get the HP up to or around a stock 250 six. The 250 wasn't available until 67 and is rated at 155 HP vs. the 194 which is 120 HP. This as far as I know is the original engine in the car, except for the head.
I don't know when it was rebuilt and the guy I bought it from couldn't tell me either. I think he bought it from someone else and just didn't have time or money to fix it up.
I did buy an HEI distributor from a 74 Nova with a 250-six and installed it on my 194. That did make a little difference, and the engine runs solid with no smoke, or misses.
There are places that sell a Offenhauser intake for these sixes that will accept a 4 bbl carb, that seems like too much for an engine of this size. Also if I don't get headers, I was thinking of doing a split exhaust with dual pipes.
