    vortec swap

Hi, I want to put a 97 vortec 350 in my Suburban. Eldebrock makes the manifold to use the TBI,but chevy said the camshaft will not work. Do you know of a cam for this app.

If I remember correctly, a 97 Vortec 350 is not a throttle body. It has a unique manifold that has injector tubes to each port. The 96, 97, 98, 99, and some 2000 Vortec 350 engines all use this same setup. The 96 and 97 computers did not have pass key.

A throttle body injection uses a more conventional manifold with a funky "carb" bolt pattern for the throttle body. It runs a completely different fuel pressure than does a 96-99 Vortec unit.

The confusion is that everything is called Vortec......three different injection systems now....the 2000 up injection on the GEN III engines is also called vortec.

Figure out which one you have.....Edelbrock doesnt make a manifold for a 97 Vortec. If you look up an Edelbrock 3704, it says that it is for an 87-95 TBI.

It has a unique manifold that has the injector pump and injector tubes under the intake called a spider web that has 8 tubes runs out to each port. this is what makes it a vortec motor.

Chevy said what cam won't work? the one in the 97 motor? for what purpose...tbi? sure it will......if you have any fuel injection questions about computer cable stuff contact www.jetchip.com they will let you know if a cam will work with your computer...if it wont they will make you a chip that will....way better than hypertech....
