    lifter adjustment

I have a hydraulic lifter setup with a high volume oil pump. I know how to adjust solids. I also know how to adjust these with the engine running, but it is nice under the hood and I would prefer not to have oil everywhere. How can I adjust these with the engine off? Should the engine be cold? I have aluminum heads. It is on a small block chevy type motor. Thanks for any help.

Some guys may get close with the motor cold and not running,Im not that precise. You can take and old stock valve cover, cut the top out of it, use a gasket, bolt it on and adjust your valves after the motor is warmed up and the lifters have built up sufficiently. You can also buy splash clips that will keep the oil from shooting everywhere. Both will enable you to do the job right and keep things fairly clean. Good luck

It Certainly helps in adjusting hydraulics if you have the intake off so you can see whats going on. on a performance hydraulic cam when the intake opens and starts to close , adjust the exhaust valve. When the exhaust starts to open , adjust the intake. With the intake on the motor I cant see whats going on ,with a new cam and lifters I might think I feel something that I dont . Id rather be watching and feelng over just feeling.--------AND THATS WHAT SHE SAID!
