Me and original car driver Neil Leffler plus one of his friends, bevy of photogs, car on run and score boardAttachment 56380Attachment 56381Attachment 56382Attachment 56383Attachment 56384well they didn't load in exact order, but you get idea--first full pass, dropping cylinders on top end because of a mismatch of port orings in manifold, but 5.97 wasn't too bad, did get bumped next day, car ran 190mph at the 1/8 mark
this is what I meant by bevy of photogs--its so bad at major races that spectators can't see the cars on trackAttachment 56385Attachment 56386Attachment 56387Attachment 56388
Great pictures, thanks for posting!!!!

Peterson & FitzAttachment 56400Attachment 56401Attachment 56402Attachment 56403Attachment 56404Me and Herm---he was burnt real bad in a rear engine dragster at OCIR that broke an axle, flipped over and slid down the track backwards on fire--car came to a stop right in front of turn out area with the crash truck sitting there, it was by him as he slid to a stop--unfortunatedly, the fire extingishers were pad locked onto the truck and no one had the keys as the track had just changed hands AHRA to NHRA? He had a flip top fuel cap and it had come open, letting all the fuel drain out into the fire right at his back side---burnt his face and hands real bad as the helmut faceplate melted and he put his hands over his face-------------nice guy and lots of changes came out of that incident!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the pictures and descriptions Jerry!!! Especially the one of you loading the pistons, bet it was a blast to get your hands back in there after all these years!!!!
Some day you should sit down with all your pictures and a good writer and do a book so that folks can see what they missed out on in the glory days of drag racing!!!!!

I'll second Dave's idea...a history of drag racing!!! That would be a great book, maybe a coffee table book with lots of photos!
By the way, did you ever race at Balboa in Eugene, Oregon? Back in the '60s I used to cut through the fields between our house and the track, pit passes were cheap and the nitro smelled wonderful.
Thanks for posting these great shots!

Jerry, thanks for showing some pics of our 40 Ford gasser, club member Tim Elmers 34 coupe and my 32 black 3-window hi-boy.
Our club (Stags of Ogden, Utah) was the TV Tommy Ivo-Justice Bros. Spotlight club this year, and we had the time of our lives!
Looked at the Keeling & Clayton car in the pits, what a beautiful, well made recreation. Wish things would have gone better, the car sure looks to have potential.
Mick
Mick--thanks to you and your club--that was quite a bunch of you there Friday night----
Thank you so much for the coverage Jerry, excellent and I tend to agree about the photo hogs in the road for the fans, I would want to complain about ALL the shit between the paying punters and the track after all, without the bums on seats, events like that would struggle to make money I would think.
Hey Jerry, Leffler still has the wild-eyed "I'm a funny car pilot" look!!!!!!!
Dave--he's driving a logging truck over snowy/icy roads in Washington state---maybe he's been or will be on that discovery channel show about the loggers!!!!!!!!!
