    Brought back many memories and I'm glad you stirred them up again.

    And you're right, Dave. Ridiculously unsafe from one end to the other, but those cars were state of the art in the early fifties. The open cars made me think of the first roll bar we had on our roadster. It was inch and a half water pipe and plenty strong, but it came up to just about my skinny neck. Scary!

    I'd also be interested to know where that strip is (was) located.

    I think the sash on the Queen says Roanoke. I would guess Roanoke Virginia, mountainous and pine-covered. That would make sense with Petty showing up too, it's only a little ways from Randelman to Roanoke.
