In 1990 Mike teamed up with businessman Ed Abel and moved to Pennsylvania to manage and drive. With Mike's dad as crew chief, the team ran four races at the end '90 in preparation for the '91 season runner-uping in Topeka and winning in Dallas.

1991 was Mike's first full season on the NHRA Winston series and the team produced 3 wins and a 3rd place finish in the points standings.
