Cept in the case of crashing Jack Hewitt, then the cost is a couple pints of your blood. (LOL)

While instructing at Watkins Glen two years ago I watched a new Porsche 911 owner attempt a "unauthorized" pass in "Da Boot" at driver education day, he sideswiped a race prepped Miata causing substantial damage to the right side of the Miata and the left side of his Porsche. In this case even though the Porsche owner was in the wrong, neither owner expected the other to pay for the damage....

The rule is simple, rubbing is racing, if you cannot afford to write off your race car while it's at the track, better leave it at home in the trailer.

Now, while racing at Englishtown last summer I did watch just the opposite, a slick blew on a pro street Camaro and the driver veered into the opposing lane striking the Firebird he was racing against...The owner of both cars were quite upset and had to be pulled apart, about two hours later after things had a chance to cool off, the owner of the Camaro for the repairs to the Firebird as he knew in his heart that the crash was his fault, and that perhaps he should not have tried to get one more weekend out of the slicks, which he knew were ready to be replaced (this being related by the owner of the Firebird over dinner that night).......So, I guess to answer your first question, no, there is no insurance that will cover your car while it's at the track racing (so best be ready to walk away from your investment if it gets totaled there), but yes and no, you may not be held legally responsible should you wreck another persons car, but you could be held morally responsible.........
