what gears should I go with

First post, hi everyone. I have a 66 Elcamino and would like to do a little drag racing with my soon to be 16 year old son. It has a 350 ZZ4 crate motor, 355 hp, with M21 muncie, and 15" tires. Does anyone know how to calculate what gears I should go with to not be reving 8000 at the end. It has 308 now, was thinking 411's. Would apprieciate any help. Thanx Al

I would go 3.73 's that way it will still be able to run down the highway at a comfortable speed, and still give you good gearing for the track.

With a smallblock 4-speed setup, I have run 4:11s and 4:56s in several cars. I like the 4:11s overall. If dragstrip performance is more important, maybe the 4:56s with a short slick for the track, and a very tall tire for the street would be a possible compromise.

Thanks guys, good info. Great website Don. I think I will go with 411's, I don't do much highway driving anyway, and if I do I will just have to slow down. Thanks again.
