Turn the helmet over and lift the padding out of the way so you can see the shock material in the inside. Somewhere around the edge, there will be a sticker that is about an inch wide and about three inches long. This is the Snell sticker that the tech inspector will be looking for at tech inspection. Minumum Snell this year is 2000. The 2005 helmets are also being produced, so look for a 2000 or 2005 Snell sticker. Numbers beginning with "M" are motorcycle helmets, but are acceptable at tech. Numbers beginning with "SA" indicate that the helmet meets Special Application specifications and are also acceptable. SA means that there is fire-resistant Nomex in the helmet and they are acceptable in the alcohol and fuel ranks. Helmets that are rated D.O.T. only, without the Snell sticker, are unacceptable.Last edited by techinspector1; 07-25-2007 at 01:47 AM.
