Now I see where you are coming from Dave. We have had a comunication barrier, I know Nascar has very talented drivers. Almost all of them have extensive backgrounds in other forms of motorsports that showed thier true talents. I was trying to say that they really do not get the chance to show their true skills in a cup car, what they are actually capable of doing. The car wins the race now days not the driver. All thier skills are not needed in Nascar.

There are a ton of racers that could step into Nascar with a good team and do some damage, heck I could do it if I had the chance. And there are drivers that actually have to drive thier cars to win a race. in conditions that you would not even want to stand in, taking turns that they dont know whats on the other end of at break neck speed. And they are far more then just dirt bags they have true skills and actually use them, like the old timers in nascar once did.

And face it they all went to Nascar because that is where the biggest payout is, thats understandable but not important to everyone. And along with that comes the hoopla you mentioned, being all the media hype and endoresment advertising that makes it more of a sideshow then a race, to me anyway..

And along with the hoopla comes the million dollar cars that if everything down to a single pound of air pressure in a tire is not right the race can be lost from there. And every aspect of the cars set up and running performance and pit strategy has to be dead on on race day to win in Nascar, its not the driver any more like it was back in the days of glory version, not the days of thunder money version.
