This was one cool event. Anybody familiar with the Seneca Illinois area? Did you know there was an 1/8 mile drag strip there at one time? As the story goes back in '54 they ran a short season. Then in '55 & '56 they ran a full program with as many as 167 entries at a race. They ran a partial schedule in '57 but shut down with the opening of nearby Oswego Dragstrip. (Oswego is still open today). I bought a video of original footage of "race day @ the Seneca drag strip. The place was packed. I was amused by the flag man. He stood a few car lengths in front of the cars. He started the race by dropping the flag and then walking off the track. (Try that today with mid 4 second drag cars). The original 1/8 mile is still there, but the shut down area is grown over. They just recently cleared the track itself of ''greenery''. In the old video the track is in an open field. Now it's in a grove of tall trees. Got a couple pics. of cars at the reunion, When I can I'll see if I can pull a few frames of the old racers from the video.Last edited by pro70z28; 05-01-2005 at 04:00 PM.
