Electric motor in front of a torque converter is an efficiency nightmare. If he is really going electron flow, (ultra modern) then a standard trans (ultra retro) is what he needs.
Ironic, ain't it?.
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.
