Didn't take pics at LARS......too humid for me. We did identify several items to fix....like the red battery cable in Uncle Bob's #14 post. Red jacketed cables were not 1947 correct. We also found several more items that will be changed in the coming weeks. The roadster is supposed to be at some charity display at Crusin' Grand in Escondido on Aug 7. It will probably be at San Diego Deuce Day Oct 3 and who knows where else. These are low key car shows that minimize the duster-crowd participation.....one reason the roadster was at the feed store was to get more dust on it!
At LARS, some didn't understand but most people really dug the 1947 detail. We didn't have time to stuff the 1947 era racing newspapers into the body areas but that is coming. We had the cam break in half during the motor startup (9 days before LARS) but the guys hustled and put our spare motor in for the show. The broken cam will be replaced and the hotter motor re-installed. Car drives fantastic with the Rotoflo shocks and the hidden rear sway bar. It has been up to about 75mph so far with zero handling issues.
Since Uncle Bob has been on me to install hubcaps (he must have some for sale?), I will put the hubcaps on it soon. We didn't want to risk scratching the wheels for the show if the hubcap look was wrong.....the look good....the ones I had, not the ones Uncle Bob is trying to sell. Tim MacN has been on our butt about the pipe length but we are standing firm..... in that era, dual pipes that were polished were a pride thing.....couldn't be too long. I remember buying those cheezy chrome tips that were held on using a set screw.
I saw last night on fb about John. The world sure lost a great one. I'm going to miss his humor, advice, and perspective from another portion of the world. Rest in Peace Johnboy.
