Those guys have patterns for just about any combination that's any kind of "typical". Kinda sounds like you might have (intentionally or not) said something that triggered their "be careful on this one" senses. I'm thinking something like "will this blow off in the wind" or such. I've got two of their covers, one on the '30 highboy on deuce rails, and the other on the '36 roadster. Both fit very well, though the one on the '36 is a touch looser. When my wife ordered the '36 as a gift for me she just told them it had a 2" chop which they were set up to accommodate. Or maybe you called at break time and got the under trained receptionist who was filling in.....
