Hey, I went out and looked at my trunk hinges and it was not exactly as I remembered
My hinge pads are slotted to allow adjustment, and the nuts are fixed in the trunk. Could be a washer on the bolt may cover the slots so it is not readily evident that they shift. If not it would be pretty easy to slot the hinge pads, too. You can see in the picture that I drilled a pair of 1/16" alignment holes before I took mine off the first time, to facilitate getting it back in the right place easier.
