I am writing this to show one way of setting up a car. This is a design decision, it's just the way I like my cars to look, I'm sure it's not for everyone. How's that for a disclaimer?
I said earlier that I set my shocks in the center position at ride height, but never said why I do this.
I use very long shocks, minimum of 4" of travel, I have used them as long as
6". It's not so much that I am after the travel of the shock, I'm after the travel of the spring, for ride quality.
I like my cars as low as possible, so when I set it up for ride height I allow 2" of clearance for the wheel well to tire clearance. I narrow the rear end so there is 1" of clearance between the side wall of the tire and the closes body panel . So when you stand behind the car you can't see any daylight between the tire and body. Sometimes for some unknown reason I have to raise the car when it's finished I have the adjustment available. I have never been in a position where I had to lower it.
I hope this can help someone who is getting ready to set up there rear end of there car, also when choosing shocks and springs. That is if you like this type of look.
