Thread: Roadster body verses Cabriolet body

I was looking at photos of a cabriolet and noticed that the doors appear to be taller than my roadster and that the part right past the dorr (above the rear wheels abd before the trunk) appears to be lower (probably to accomodate the folding top?)... So the door top line does not match the rest of the car's top lines - if you know what I mean? It is not one straight line, it looks like the door is too tall for the rest of the body

There's an original Cabriolet body for sale, and of course I was "thinking" about it (hey it doesn't cost anything to "think" about it LOL) but then I wondered whether I should just be patient and wait for the day when a roadster body does come up... One day... Far far away...

because you know one day Hiboy will have an original body on it, even if it takes 10 years.

I just did not like that weird door height on the cabriolet... Is the cowl area different than a normal roadster (since the cowl seems in line with the doors)? Wish I could compare both side by side... Deuce, maybe you can shed some light into the differences in body dimensions, line, details? (No need to cover the windshield area, which I am very aware of)

(sigh)... It sure was tempting...

The extra height is to accomodate the roll up windows.

About the only piece that might interchange is the deck lid, and maybe the panel below that (speaking of the main body panels here).

Patience (if your name's Faith, shouldn't you have a sister named that?) in seeking a roadster body. If you're dead on serious about that, you need to be searching now...........now and every single day until you find one. They're rare, in demand, and you need to out manuever a lot of folks to find one. Not impossible, just demanding.

I had a cabriolet many years ago. I considered cutting the windshield off and trying to make it a roadster ... BUT ... better sense finally prevailed and I sold it and saved my money for a roadster ...

If you really want a Henry built roadster ... you are in the best area of the world to find one IMHO ... save your money and go to the LA Roadsters swap meet on Father's Day weekend ... there has always been 2 or 3 there for sale .... every time I go ...
Not for cheap $$$ ... but they are there. In 1986 ... there were 8 or 10 ... in 1994 ... there were 4 or 5 ... in 1996 ... there were only 3 and since then 1 or 2 ... every year.

In fact, my 32 Roadster came from a used car lot on Wilkshire Blvd ... LA California ...

What were they asking for the bodies last time you saw some there? Just out of curiosity

10 for one a little rough ...
15 for fairly nice one ...

If you like the Cabriolet because of the roll up windows, you might think about saving for a new steel '32 convertible body by Hot Rods and Horsepower. Cashy but very, very nice. If I was going to build another '32, that is what I would build.

I know a guy who just bought one, all original, took it home cleaned it up a little, cranked up the first time he tried, paid $7000, some old guy had died, and his wife was selling everything, the old guy was hording all this stuff, had never been used flat fours, stacks of flywheels,crankshafts etc, he bought the roadster and a 29 sedan and a30 coupe i think, lucky find, he wont sell thought cause hes into 100% original cars, and he doesnt want them to be hot rodded

hiboygal... I got the impression your car was original. What kind of body is it?

When I posted it earlier he had an opening price of $14995 with no reserve! Guess he must have heard from some "expert" it was worth WAAAAYYYYY more............even though he hadn't had any bids in a couple days.

If he hears from another expert or two, he might get the asking price up to $100K.

A cabriolet is a great body to have because you have both the roadster and closed car for crummy rain/snow weather. I know this because I have a 32cabriolet!! Also for some reason seem to be cheaper then a original roadster..
