Do the side seals need to be cut down to fit? I installed the bottom seal while test fitting my frame assembly, but the weatherstrip is like an inch wide, and the gap between the frame and the side posts is only like 1/4"... surely you dont just jam the seal in between there? I was thinking it should be cut in half or more to fit between the narrow gap... or left off all together. Opinions? Pics?

You can cut the seals down to fill the gap on the sides, but personally I don't care for the looks of the side seals, so I leave them off.
You may get a whistle at speed tho.

I have the same cut down rubber seal fitted to the side of the windsheild. If you make them fit nicely they shouldn't whistle and it keeps out the rain ( I'm assuming you have a roof and intend to drive everywhere).

UKRodder, could you post some close up pics of the side seals you cut for your windshield? I'd like to see what they look like, I'm still torn as to whether I'm gonna use em or not... and no, right now i have no roof.. although I do plan to get a Sid Chavers Bop Top someday... hopefully after i hit the lottery.

It's not a very good photo, but maybe you can enlarge it on your PC. There isn't much of a gap but i wanted it sealed ( i don't like the rain getting in). The rubber seal is trimmed down enough for a snug fit ( and the gap above the top fixing).

C9X and Mel Chave, I note you have windwings. After I got the stainless 2" chopped stanchions set up on my '29 I decided to drill holes for windwings. I messed up the holes a little bit in one place but the hexnut will cover the scratches. However the windwing clamps I got from Brattons stock A parts are pretty finicky regarding the rubber gaskets on the glass. The windwing holders came with a strip of cloth with a rough rubber surface on one side and I also bought the little rubber pads from Brattons. So far it looks like the rubber pads are too thick but I might use the thinner pad on one side and the rubberized cloth on the other side. I am using double layer laminated safety glass instead of tempered glass and it is a little thicker. I realize that this is just one more case of fooling around and adapting what works, but I would appreciate any comments you can give about how you mounted the glass in the windwings. I also used "GOOP" contact cement to put the rubber gasket into the stanchions which do not have a T-channel, just a deep channel. The "GOOP" directions say it will hold to metal and rubber but the lack of a T-channel makes it look like a chancy fit. Comments please?

If you spend some time at www.carnut.com in his '32 index you'll see them all over the map.

I'm just getting ready to mount our windshield so I went on this thread and saw your post, thanks! We're trying to choose a color to paint our soon to be finished '32 and these pictures of '32's will help me decide---or maybe just confuse me more!

This is an old thread, but if you're just starting to set up the windshield, the advice to bolt it all together and let it "fall where it may" for the best fit is indeed a good one. You'll find that unless you want to cut and hack and file and grind the lower stanchions, theres really only one place they sit on your cowl nicely... this "sweet spot" might be in a different place/angle/etc. depending on your partcular body, but I'll lay money there's a postion they "naturally" want to go. It actually worked out well for me, and wasn't as hair raising of an adventure as I anticipated... I posted a bunch of pics of the process as I was working on it in another thread that may be helpful to you.

    http://clubhotrod.com/forums/showthr...ght=windshield.

I also recall there was a guy posting in various forums years ago (as I was searching old threads for info on the subject) that claimed Kilbourne bodies (which my car is) were narrower by an inch or more than a stock ford, and that stock stuff wouldn't fit it, a top would never work right unless you bought one of his, etc. etc. ....that all turned out to be hogwash. I was very impressed by how nicely everything fit, and totally changed my windshield from a billet post setup to a stock style and added a top/ etc. AFTER the car was painted, with no major problems at all. Good luck NSRA905, if you run into any problems feel free to PM or e mail me, I'd be glad to offer any tips or advice on the matter. -Joe

    Joe,
Thanks for your reply and to all the other guys that have posted info in this old thread and the other thread you told me about. I have been a rodder since '64 and have always wanted a '32 highboy and am finally doing it! I've never mounted a '32 windshield before and all this info and the pictures will certainly help me. I always had buddies in NY to work with but since moving to Florida a short time ago it's just my wife and I doing the work--and we're still married!!! I came across another site that has some good info, not just about the windshield mounting but if you click on the "next article" at the bottom of the page there's more. http://www.canadianrodder.com/2007/artpages/art13.htm
Thanks again to all, this is a great site!!!!!!!!

Im very intersted in the Coast2Coast '32 retractible windshield Frame and have been looking all over the internet for the supplier but no luck in finding them.... This looks very close to the DEARBORN DUECE windshield.... I did contact Dearborn Duece but the do not sell their windshields separate from the body package....

Can anybody shed some light on a website or a link to this part...

    Thanks
